Job Summary
BMW Group PhD program: support design of future reclining and lying-down seat concepts for vehicle architecture of the future, ensuring customer comfort, ergonomics, and overall seating package across lifecycle. Assist in evaluating technologies (haptic, visual, acoustic) to ensure customer satisfaction, safety and well-being; conduct tests with real participants in driving simulation environments; assist in creating prototype set-ups featuring seating systems and interior concepts for validation testing; collaborate closely with seat prototyping workshop, user interface experts and human subject testing specialists. This role is part of the ProMotion PhD programme and involves a practice-related thesis, potential career-path development, and online application through BMW Career Portal; earliest start date is now, duration 36 months, part-time hours, Munich location with apartment offers for students; EU residence/work permit required for non-EU citizens.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in software engineering, electrical engineering, automotive engineering or a comparable technical or scientific qualification
- Experience or exposure in the automotive industry with design of customer experiences or functions, engineering and/or vehicle packaging (preferred)
- Systemic thinking and knowledge of the design of complex mechatronic systems
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming and the modelling of complex functional chains
- Experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK or comparable simulation tools
- Good spatial awareness and knowledge of Catia V5 or comparable tools for parametric design
- Business-level proficiency in spoken and written English; knowledge of Chinese would be an advantage
