Job Summary
Evaluate and develop new genomic testing methodologies, including Next Generation Sequencing, while supporting NGS analysis and variant classification. Troubleshoot existing assays and establish a quality metric program to ensure continuous monitoring of all assays. Perform molecular biology techniques such as Sanger Sequencing, quantitative PCR, and MLPA while applying ACMG/AMP guidelines. Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to balance community needs with strategic priorities and mentor others in a culturally safe environment. Travel within Saskatchewan as required.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in the field of human genetics, specifically incorporating techniques in Molecular Biology
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Exp. in Molecular Biology laboratory is mandatory
- Minimum two (2) yrs working in an accredited healthcare lab setting
- Knowledge of molecular biology including techniques such as: Next Generation Sequencing, Sanger Sequencing, quantitative PCR, digital droplet PCR, repeat-primed PCR, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA)
- Knowledge of the American College of Medical Geneticists/American Molecular Pathologists (ACMG/AMP) variant classification guidelines
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to perform basic statistics
- Knowledge of legislation and applicable laws
- Knowledge of the healthcare system in Saskatchewan
- Knowledge of First Nations and Metis history in Saskatchewan
- Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action
- Travel within Saskatchewan
Desired Qualifications
- Exp. with Next Generation Sequencing is an asset
- Exp. in a clinical genetics laboratory is an asset
- Courses related to statistics and Microsoft Excel preferred
- Prefer candidates with strong interest/experience in Molecular Genetics
- Related education, experience, board cert/eligibility may be considered
