Job Summary

Assist pharmacists in the technical aspects of drug distribution for inpatients and ambulatory care patients by preparing both sterile and non-sterile extemporaneous products. Ensure the smooth functioning of pharmacy teams across various sites while working under the direct supervision of pharmacists. Participate in the training of new employees and manage competing priorities to maintain efficient workflows. This role requires a registered Pharmacy Technician with current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and automation technology is preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines
  • Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated dispensing cabinets)
  • Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service
  • Previous hospital experience with automation technology
  • Two years practical and related experience
  • Membership with a professional pharmacy association
  • Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Have a good employee record
  • Satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program
  • Criminal Record Check

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous hospital experience with cytotoxic drug safe handling and sterile intravenous admixture service preferred
  • Previous hospital experience with automation technology preferred
  • Two years practical and related experience preferred
  • Membership with a professional pharmacy association is an asset
