Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician Specialist at Northwestern Medicine working in the Northwestern Medicine system on a full-time rotating shift. Under a licensed pharmacist, you will perform advanced technical duties in dispensing areas, unit-dose and sterile product functions, and participate in controlled substances reception and reconciliation. The role includes leading performance improvement initiatives, coordinating technician schedules, training staff, maintaining documentation, supporting ADC operations, recalls and backorder management, inventory collaboration with Procurement/Supply Chain, and ensuring compliance with Simplifi 797 and 800. Requires Illinois license (IDFPR) and certification designations as noted, high school diploma or GED, 1-2 years of technician experience in hospital or outpatient settings, and preferred experience includes 5+ years and specialty pharmacist certifications. The position emphasizes collaboration with nursing and healthcare professionals, quality improvement, and adherence to regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR)
- Pharmacy Technician licenses issued after 12/31/07 must have either CERTIFIED or STUDENT designation by their second license renewal in accordance with Section 9 of the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act
- Licensed Technicians prior to 1/1/2008 certification requirement must meet department skill level
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 1-2 years’ technician experience
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or outpatient setting
- Excellent critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Specialty Pharmacy: Certified Pharmacy Technician through PTCB or ExCPT through NHA
