Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician under direct supervision to fill prescriptions, assist patients, and perform technical tasks such as filling, compounding, reconstitution and labeling. Enter patient information into the pharmacy computer system, verify medication details (medication, strength, route, number of refills, physician name), and perform calculations for prescription input and dispensing. Correctly identify patient per protocol prior to dispensing medication and provide patient counseling with a pharmacist prior to completing the transaction. Prioritize work to fill prescriptions in order of importance; initials Rx labels; follow procedures for inventory management, removing expired medications, rotating stock, and maintaining organized work areas. Handle prescription returns and insurance reversals; respond to phone inquiries and walkway requests; operate department equipment including POS and vendor software. Participate in tasks related to quality assurance monitoring, data collection and analysis; may assist with prior authorizations and advanced insurance/provider inquiries; contribute to department efficiency initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application
- Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- IDFPR qualifications
