Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician supports daily operations by assisting pharmacists in dispensing medications, processing prescriptions, maintaining patient records, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service. Under pharmacist supervision, responsibilities include receiving and processing prescription orders, preparing medications, assisting with refill authorizations, verifying demographic/insurance information, handling insurance claims and billing, collecting co-pays, maintaining inventory and controlled substances documentation, adhering to HIPAA regulations, and ensuring compliance with federal/state pharmacy regulations. The role emphasizes accuracy, patient confidentiality, safety procedures, audits/quality improvement, and proficiency with pharmacy management software and communication with patients.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Pharmacy Technician registration/certification as required by the State of Louisiana
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) preferred or obtained within a designated timeframe
- Minimum one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience preferred
- Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, and dosage forms
- Experience with pharmacy management software and electronic health records preferred
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- English language proficiency (reading/writing/speaking)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to assist and support coworkers as needed
