Job Summary

Process customers' prescriptions by collecting doctor's instructions, assisting the Pharmacist in filling them, and filing applicable insurance claims. Collect monies, give correct change, and process transactions on the Point-of-Sale system while troubleshooting claim processing problems. Monitor inventory stock levels, receive and unpack incoming drugs and supplies, and pre-package and label pharmaceutical preparations. Maintain clean and orderly sales floor areas, shelves, and storage zones while stocking Over-the-Counter items and ordering supplies from vendors. Perform quarterly inventory checks and manage expired merchandise returns.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or within 1 year of receiving diploma
  • Good math aptitude
  • Math and metric knowledge
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others in English
  • Acceptable written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Satisfactory score of Times Supermarket cashier test
  • Satisfactory score on Times Pharmacy math test
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to participate in strenuous work
  • Must maintain neat appearance and well groomed
  • Must maintain good customer relations
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must have good memory for product identification and SKU codes
  • Must be able to use proper judgment when handling customer inquiries and complaints
  • Must be able to refer customers to the proper Management Staff if scope of the situation is beyond the position's responsibility
  • Must be able to assist in servicing of customers
  • Must be able to take on additional duties as assigned

  • Must be able to ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner in accordance with established guidelines
  • Must be able to pick up and remove any objects or conditions which may create a hazard or danger to others
  • Must be able to report any hazards to the immediate supervisor
  • Must be able to work together with others as a team to provide efficiency on the job and to promote good morale
  • Must be able to properly maintain, using, and caring for all equipment

  • Must be able to stock and/or face pharmacy Over-the-Counter (OTC) items
  • Must be able to order supplies from vendors
  • Must be able to maintain working area, sales floor areas, shelves, and storage areas to ensure that they are clean and orderly at all times
  • Must be able to perform quarterly inventory of items in the Automation Device (if applicable) and prepare pharmacy for inventory
  • Must be able to pull and prepare expired merchandise to be returned to the wholesaler or return company
  • Must be able to provide efficient and courteous service to the customers
  • Must be able to count medicines
  • Must be able to troubleshoot insurance claims processing problems
  • Must be able to collect the necessary information for the prescription based on the doctor's instructions
  • Must be able to enter information into the computer
  • Must be able to file applicable insurance claims
  • Must be able to call third party insurance plans when unable to determine appropriate claim filing not achieved
  • Must be able to collect payment and process transactions on the Point-of-Sale system
  • Must be able to provide correct change due to the customer
  • Must be able to monitor inventory stock levels in Pharmacy, Home Health Care OTC section, and in Automation Device (if applicable)
  • Must be able to understand and abide by all company policies and procedures
  • Must be able to acknowledge the importance of properly handling the finances and prescription medication in the pharmacy
  • Must be able to acknowledge that they will be held accountable for any negligent acts
  • Must be able to have a background check before employment
  • Must be able to agree to employment being contingent on the results of the background check

  • Good phone etiquette preferred
  • Cashiering or previous money handling experience preferred but not necessary
  • Experience or training dealing with public desirable
