Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician II at Duke Specialty Pharmacy in Durham, NC—performing a range of duties from prescription processing and medication preparation to distribution, patient follow-up, and collaboration with the pharmacy team to ensure safe medication use. Responsibilities include restocking dispensing cabinets and anesthesia workstations, handling medications per regulatory requirements, assisting with training of new employees and students, supporting clinical functions such as medication safety initiatives and patient follow-ups, operating and troubleshooting pharmacy machinery and software, and contributing to broader team goals with minimal supervision. Requires completion of an accredited technician-training program or acceptance into pharmacy school, NC pharmacy licensure/registration, and PTCB or ExCPT certification. Duties may include IV solution preparation and aseptic technique at select locations, with full-time (40 hours/week) scheduling and potential weekend coverage.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program
- or Acceptance into pharmacy school
- or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience
- North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required
- Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)
- Minimum of one year related experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred
- Retail or outpatient pharmacy experience preferred
