Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician I assists the pharmacist in dispensing and filling prescriptions, enters prescriptions in the computer, files prescriptions, orders medications and OTC items, and aids the pharmacist in day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include calling third-party insurance providers, checking in orders, putting orders away (RX and OTC), completing end-of-day closing and deposit procedures, preparing unit-dose medications for dispensing, preparing medications for transportation rounds, conducting pharmacy-related tasks to maintain efficiency, and assisting with inventory of RX and OTC supplies. The role supports pharmacy operations in a hospital setting with rotating schedules and weekend/holiday coverage.
Required Qualifications
- License: Current Illinois Registered Pharmacy Technician required
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred; certification required within two years of initial licensure
- Experience: Prior technician experience or hospital experience preferred
- Retail experience preferred for retail positions
