Job Summary
Process prescription refill requests, verify prescription information, and prepare inpatient and outpatient prescriptions for dispensation under pharmacist supervision. Count, pour, label, package, and draw medications into syringes while providing information on pricing, availability, and services to clients, students, and clinicians. Perform data entry, conduct initial screening of orders for completeness and accuracy, contact clinicians to clarify incomplete orders, and assist with daily billing and charge entry. Answer incoming phone calls, coordinate refills, and ensure timely, accurate medication dispensing with excellent customer service. This role includes opportunities for training in advanced functions such as nonsterile compounding, hazardous medication preparation per USP <800> standards, and Pyxis inventory management.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- National pharmacy technician certification (e.g., PTCB or equivalent)
- Ability to carry 40 lbs of pet food or fluids
- Pre-employment Criminal Background Check
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in a veterinary hospital, academic medical center, or hospital pharmacy
- Experience with sterile and/or non-sterile compounding, including familiarity with USP standards
- Familiarity with controlled substance regulations and audit preparation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Demonstrated ability to support students or trainees in a teaching environment
- may require working on occasional holiday or weekend
