Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician at Lewis Drug (Full Time) supports pharmacists by preparing and distributing prescriptions, assisting in patient interactions, ensuring HIPAA privacy, and handling daily pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include customer service in-store, processing prescriptions and refills, maintaining accurate medication preparation, stocking and keeping the work area clean, assisting with drive-thru when applicable, and learning state and national regulatory requirements. On-the-job training provided to prepare for national certification; must register with state Boards of Pharmacy and pursue PTCB certification within the specified timeline. Strong attention to detail, basic drug terminology, ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations, and proficiency with pharmacy software are required. Must be able to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old (Iowa/SD/MN state requirements)
- Must be registered with state Board of Pharmacy prior to first day worked (Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota)
- Must become nationally certified pharmacy technician within 1 year of BOP registration (PTCB Certification recommended)
- Must have high school diploma or GED (Minnesota requirement)
- Pharmacy Technician certification preferred (PTCB)
- Ability to learn basic drug terminology and differences between brand and generic drugs
- Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, some algebra)
- Ability to log into and use multiple software systems
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Dependable attendance and job performance
- Ability to work as part of a team and individually
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks as required
