Job Summary
Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist by measuring, mixing, counting, labeling, and recording dosages. Assist pharmacists in compounding, dispensing prescriptions, and managing unit dose dispensing or IV admixtures depending on the setting. Maintain proper drug storage, ensure equipment functionality, control inventory levels, and assist with billing and departmental quality assurance. Follow written policies, utilize computer programs, and adhere to state laws while providing patient-focused services under supervisory oversight.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or general education diploma (GED)
- Iowa: PTCB or NHA national certification
- Iowa: Registration as a pharmacy technician trainee within 30 days of starting training or employment
- Iowa: National certification within 12 months of starting tech employment or training
- Iowa: Discontinuation of work if trainee registration expires without certification
- Minnesota: Age 18 or older
- Minnesota: Active/current pharmacy technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
- Minnesota: Completion of Sanford provided (or equivalent) pharmacy technician training program within 12 months of registration
- North Dakota: Registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Technician in Training with the ND Board of Pharmacy
- North Dakota: Enrollment in Sanford provided (or equivalent) ASHP accredited education
- North Dakota: National certification (PTCB or NHA) within timelines established by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy
- North Dakota: Maintenance of active license with the North Dakota board of Pharmacy
- South Dakota: Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the SD Board of Pharmacy within 30 days from the date of hire
- South Dakota: Certification for immunizations, Remote Pharmacy, or other advanced functions as approved per the Board
- Proficiency in multiple computer programs
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn and utilize new technology
