Job Summary

Conduct technical support for pharmacists by preparing unit doses, entering computer orders, and delivering medications to patient rooms. Load and refill automated dispensing cabinets, answer telephone inquiries, and maintain billing and medication profiles. Prioritize time-sensitive tasks such as urgent deliveries and label preparation, ensuring products arrive at least one hour prior to due times. Round to nursing locations to remove discontinued medications and restock work areas, while maintaining manufacturing logs and monitoring refrigerator temperatures. Perform controlled substance audits, reconcile dispensed versus administered products, and ensure barcode integrity before medications leave the pharmacy. Process narcotics for removal and replacement, and handle hazardous medications per regulatory guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License
  • 1 year of pharmacy work experience
  • equivalent additional education
  • Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
  • National Healthcareer Association certification
  • Certification must be maintained
  • computer keyboarding skills
  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations
  • Skill at manipulating small objects, e.g., needles, syringes, ampules
  • Ability to use mechanical system for transfer of fluids
  • Knowledge of and skill at application of aseptic technique
  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation

Desired Qualifications

  • Formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience
  • Medical and scientific nomenclature
