Job Summary
Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records under supervision. Applies age-appropriate in-direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients. Performs IV preparation per USP Chapter 797 and compounding of hazardous drugs per NIOSH and USP 800 standards (including hazardous drug stock preparation, prime IV tubing, and both sterile and non-sterile compounding). Handles unit-dose packaging, replenishment of automated dispensing systems, delivery of medications, and inventory control. Ensures compliance with federal/state regulations and hospital policies, maintains confidentiality per HIPAA, supports quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, and contributes to departmental budgeting and purchasing related to medications. Requires knowledge of regulatory surveys/inspections and strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current licensure for Pharmacy Technicians by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- One-year experience in a hospital pharmacy
- Knowledge of regulations and laws related to the practice of pharmacy
