Job Summary
Access patient records to charge and credit patients for medications while verifying their location. Organize phone calls and window traffic, prioritizing stat and emergency medication orders under the pharmacist's direction. Maintain equipment, perform stock rotation and ordering, and store medications in designated areas. Compound oral suspensions, ointments, and tablets; prepare patient-specific doses with correct strength and concentration. Label medications with auxiliary labels as necessary and prepare items for automated dispensing devices. Deliver medications to patient drawers and remove expired stock. Develop rapport with patient care units by remaining highly visible and available to address concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Certified with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician
- Certification eligible with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy and certification obtained within 9 month of original hire date
- Technicians must hold current certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Technicians must hold current certification from the exam for the certification of pharmacy technicians (ExCPT)
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program approved by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a variety of departmental and hospital personnel
- Skills necessary to verify medication information with computer records
- Basic computer keyboard skills
