Job Summary
Collect and verify accurate medication histories for Emergency Department patients by collaborating with pharmacists, primary care providers, and other sources to ensure comprehensive records. Assist the pharmacist and patient care team during emergency situations while using Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment (Omnicell) for dispensing. Perform advanced technical responsibilities including sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory management, diversion monitoring, mail order processing, and medication safety reporting. Review medication error and adverse drug reaction reports, then coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery and accurate documentation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 to 2 years of pharmacy experience
- Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals
- Pharmacy Technician Certified Board Certification relevant to work area within 6 months of hire
- Ability to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications
- Attention to detail/accuracy
- Customer service orientation
- Knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard
- Ability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment
- Ability to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course
