Job Summary
Assist the Pharmacist in providing medication and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel. Dose medications under supervision, maintain and reorder inventory, restock automated dispensing machines, and process dispensed records while computing charges. Prepare and interpret medication usage reports, including narcotic usage, and receive incoming deliveries under appropriate storage conditions. Participate in performance improvement activities and provide pharmaceutical care for patients ranging from newborns to the elderly. Identify dosage variations across age groups and consult the Pharmacist regarding any doubts. Perform all aspects of patient care to optimize safety and reduce medical errors, working under pressure to meet deadlines while maintaining confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- Must be nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within one year of hire date
- One year of related pharmacy experience
- Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to geriatric population obtained either in school education, experience, or subsequent training
- Graduate of a certified training program/healthcare careers college and/or training equivalent
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- Basic arithmetic
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must be a motivated critical thinker and problem solver
- Is capable of appropriate and proactive cooperation with colleagues and supervisors
- Works well under pressure
- Can meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines
- Can maintain confidentiality
