Job Summary
Pick up prescription medications and approved items from the pharmacy, review delivery information for correct destinations, and follow assigned routes while maintaining safe driving practices. Deliver prescriptions safely and promptly to patients' homes, healthcare facilities, assisted living facilities, and other authorized locations. Protect medications from loss, theft, damage, or contamination by maintaining strict chain of custody and following procedures for special handling or temperature control. Verify appropriate recipients, obtain signatures or electronic confirmations, and maintain complete delivery logs. Immediately report missing, damaged, incorrect, or undeliverable prescriptions and return undeliverable items per established procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information by complying with HIPAA requirements and referring any clinical questions to a pharmacist. Provide courteous customer service, perform basic vehicle safety checks, maintain the delivery vehicle, and complete required training.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to meet company driving requirements
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Professional communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Ability to use GPS/navigation applications, smartphones, and electronic delivery systems
- Ability to safely enter and exit a vehicle repeatedly throughout a shift
- Ability to lift and transport pharmacy packages and supplies as required by the position
- Must be able to successfully complete applicable background screening and motor vehicle record review
- Must be able to successfully complete applicable pre-employment requirements
- Must be able to successfully complete required HIPAA, privacy, safety, and compliance training
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience as a pharmacy delivery driver, medical courier, delivery driver, or professional driver
- Previous healthcare, pharmacy, home health, or medical-delivery experience
- Familiarity with local streets, neighborhoods, healthcare facilities, and navigation systems
- Previous experience handling confidential or sensitive information
