Job Summary
The Pharmacy Assistant position focuses on providing specialized pharmaceutical care to patients receiving specialty medications. Key responsibilities include processing specialty medication orders, obtaining prior authorizations, patient communication, billing and reimbursement support, medication adherence support, utilizing pharmacy software for data management, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates must have a Grade 12 education, pass a specific test, and have strong communication skills, with preferred qualifications of completed Pharmacy Assistant Program and experience in a specialty pharmacy.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 education or acceptable combination of experience and education
- Pass the Calgary Co-op Pharmacy Assistant test
- Proficiency and competence with Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Written communication skills, including the ability to write in a clear and concise manner to peers, managers, and customers
Desired Qualifications
- Completed a recognized Pharmacy Assistant Program (preferred)
- Experience working in Specialty pharmacy (preferred)
- Prior experience in a specialty pharmacy or healthcare setting dealing with complex medications is an advantage
