Job Summary

The PGY1 pharmacy resident is a pharmacist in training providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, clinical services, and teaching. The program builds on PharmD education to develop patient care, leadership, and teaching skills, with rotations across Emergency, Critical Care, Pediatrics, and Medical-Surgical units. Residents perform clinical reviews of medication orders, intervene on dosing errors or drug interactions, ensure proper labeling and distribution of medications, supervise sterile and non-sterile/hazardous compounding, review patient medication profiles, develop formulary reviews and drug-use evaluations, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, educate staff, and pursue board certification in pharmacotherapy. The residency emphasizes safety, quality improvement, and a residency project developed over the year; successful completion requires licensure eligibility and adherence to hospital policies.
