Job Summary
Coordinate patient referrals and follow-up care by scheduling with specialists, facilities, and insurance companies while documenting all referral information in the electronic medical record. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients on pre- and admissions, obtaining necessary signatures and maintaining payer requirement notebooks. Provide financial counseling to patients regarding balances, arrange liability resolutions, and assist in obtaining alternative financial resources or COBRA approvals. Electronically and manually bill insurance and self-pay accounts, process payments and refunds, and follow up on requests for additional information or payment denials. Review accounts and remittance for accuracy, prepare appeals, and resolve technical denials while maintaining productivity targets.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of previous related experience in a medical front office
- Must have the ability to be highly organized and multi-task at various work stations and settings
- Must possess effective professional interpersonal skills
- Must possess excellent service skills in all interactions
- Must be able to communicate effectively on the phone, in person and in writing
- Must be able to plan, prioritize and organize work assigned within communicated deadlines
- Must demonstrate an attention to detail when completing all work assigned
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Hospital billing experience
- Advanced education
- Previous experience with billing and collections in a medical office or hospital setting
- Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) certification
- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology, including terminology use in regards to insurance, inpatient and outpatient billing and coding
- Knowledge of various governmental agency and insurance requirements
- Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
