Job Summary
Process daily batches of transactions from governmental entities, commercial insurers, and individuals to ensure patient accounts are accurately valued. Validate payments received in the bank, review for duplications, and post all transactions exactly as they appear on supporting documentation like Explanation of Benefits. Balance each batch to the penny before posting, independently research complex transactions involving overpayments or recoupments, and perform peer reviews of team member work. Correctly post miscellaneous transactions to general ledger accounts and offer process improvement suggestions to management. This role supports the Patient Financial Services department at KHI, ensuring precise accounting across multiple payer portals and insurance types.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One (1) or more years of experience posting transactions to an accounting system
- One (1) or more years of experience in healthcare
- Understanding of billing, collections, denials, and payment posting workflow
- Computer and Software usage abilities including: Web searching and website review
- Spreadsheet software (Excel, OpenOffice, Google Office, or similar)
- Word processing (Word, OpenOffice, Google Office, or similar)
- Basic keyboarding skills
- Demonstrated ability to read and analyze an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)
- Familiarity with hospital billing (UB-04) and Physician billing (CMS-1500)
- Knowledge of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care payer processes
- Basic accounting principles for balancing and reconciling payments
- Knowledge of general ledger postings and adjustments
- Ability to work across multiple platforms and payer portals
- Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve posting errors while completing fast, error-free posting of payments and adjustments
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal during working hours (excluding breaks and meals)
- Occasionally lifts and carries up to 35 pounds
