Job Summary
Petroleum Inspector responsibilities include physically sampling, measuring, and taking the temperature of vessel tanks and shore tanks following API and SGS procedures; calculating and reporting quantities of bulk hydrocarbon transferred and performing full reconciliation; completing reports using SGS Ship Inspection Report (SIR) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT); coordinating with client representatives, ship/shore personnel, and regulatory agencies; maintaining knowledge of current industry standards and SGS internal policies; adhering to safety practices and supporting back-office duties as assigned. The position requires high school or equivalent education, 6 months to 2 years of transferrable industry experience, a valid driver’s license (TWIC preferred), basic English proficiency, and competency with basic fractions/decimals, reporting, and MS Office. Flexibility to adapt to changing instructions and the ability to work independently or in a team are expected.
Required Qualifications
- High School or equivalent (Required)
- 6 months to 2 years of transferrable industry experience (Preferred)
- Completion of internal Inspector Development Program Level (Preferred)
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
- TWIC (Preferred)
- IFIA Certification (Preferred)
- Language Skills: English – Basic level (Required)
- Mathematical Skills: Basic level of proficiency with fractions and decimals (Required)
- Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Intermediate level (Required)
- Communication Skills: Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups (Required)
- Flexibility: Must be flexible with ability to accept changes in instructions on short notice (Required)
- Independent work capability (Required)
- MS Office - Basic to Intermediate user proficiency (Required)
- Continues to gain knowledge and expertise in the profession (Required)
- Has no discretion to vary from established procedures by performing structured work assignments (Required)
