Job Summary
Pet Welfare Assistant – Off-site Services at Blue Cross Burford assists in offsite pet care, including rehoming pets in foster or Home Direct service or pets in temporary crisis care. Responsible for managing a specific number of pet cases, ensuring welfare standards are met, following rehabilitation plans, and completing assessments of pets for new homes quickly. The role emphasizes strong customer service, interaction with fosterers, clients and stakeholders, and on-site collaboration with a multi-skilled team. Essential qualities include empathy for animals, ability to assess pet needs, knowledge of medications (e.g., flea treatments, diabetes management), and excellent communication. Required: previous animal welfare experience, strong record-keeping, customer-focused background, good organisational and administrative skills, and a full driving licence. Desirable: qualification or experience in animal behaviour or training; cash handling; health and safety procedures; safeguarding understanding.
Required Qualifications
- Experience of having previously worked or volunteered with domestic animals or in an animal welfare environment
- Good experience of recording information and being able to accurately convey this when communicating with others
- Previous experience in working in a customer focused environment and used to achieving a high level of customer satisfaction
- Good organisational and administration skills to include computerised systems
- A full driving licence
