Job Summary
Provide friendly visits with a certified pet to patients and families in homes, in-patient units, and skilled nursing facilities. Offer emotional support, companionship, and listening, or perform essential services such as errands, shopping, and light housekeeping. Serve as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team by assisting with the plan of care and documenting visit activities accurately. Maintain open communication with the volunteer coordinator and participate in bereavement follow-ups, training new volunteers, and mandatory annual education. Adhere to all policies, health requirements, and confidentiality standards set by Rainbow Hospice.
Required Qualifications
- Certified pet
- Ability to provide friendly visits
- Ability to offer emotional support, companionship and supportive listening
- Ability to perform essential services i.e. errands, shopping, light housekeeping
- Ability to serve as an integral member of the Hospice interdisciplinary team
- Ability to assist team and provide input to the plan of care
- Ability to document volunteer time and patient visit activity in an accurate, timely and objective manner
- Ability to maintain open communication, reporting regularly to the volunteer coordinator
- Ability to participate in bereavement follow-up with families
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Ability to adhere to Rainbow Hospice policies and procedures
- Ability to complete the mandatory annual education
- Ability to meet all health requirements set by Rainbow Hospice
- Ability to participate in volunteer support and educational in-services
- Ability to assist in training of new volunteers
