Job Summary
Independently performs a full menu of grooming services for dogs and/or cats (bath, brush, grooming) and standalone services (nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary care) in line with PetSmart standards; provides guidance on health and wellness options to pet parents; manages the pet parent experience, appointment reminders, client records, check-in/check-out, and rebooking; promotes salon sales and merchandise; maintains high levels of cleanliness, sanitation, and humane handling of all pets; takes immediate action for sick or injured pets and arranges veterinary transport if needed; may assist other departments and participates in the Belonging and Recognition culture; follows all company policies. Essential duties also include keeping the grooming area clean, performing end-of-day cleaning, and adhering to safety procedures. Qualifications required include prior grooming experience or 6 months in Stylist in Training with Salon Academy certification or passage of the salon technical evaluation, proficiency with computers, ability to work under pressure, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), strong organizational and safety-focused skills, and strong written and verbal communication. Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing a ladder, lifting up to 50 pounds (and more with team lift), exposure to a wet environment and pet hair, potential exposure to live animals, and moderate to high noise levels.
Required Qualifications
- Prior grooming experience; or 6 months of experience in the Stylist in Training role with successful completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program or passes the salon technical evaluation.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
