Job Summary
Perform diagnostic studies utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and operate PET/CT or PET/MR equipment for image acquisition and radiopharmaceutical distribution. Analyze biologic specimens and fuse PET/CT or PET/MR images for physician interpretation while treating patients with care and respect. Manage radiopharmaceuticals through receipt, storage, administration, and disposal, adhering to hospital, state, and federal policies regarding radioactive materials and hazardous chemicals. Execute proper quality control criteria for imaging instruments and utilize PACS/RIS for training and problem resolution. Requires current Indiana State Department of Health license and advanced certification in CT or MRI within 18 months.
Required Qualifications
- 0-1 year of experience
- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning
- Active status through one of the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Technologist - Nuclear Medicine, RT (NM); or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB): CNMT
- Advanced certification in Computed Tomography (CT) through the American Registry of Radiology Technology (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, (NMTCB) within 18 months of hire, if working in PET CT
- Advanced certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance, RT(MR); or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within 18 months of hire, if working in PET MR
- Current Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) license as Nuclear Medicine Technologist
- Knowledge of PACS/RIS for training and problem resolution
- Knowledge of anatomy; physiology; mathematics; chemistry; physics; biology; radiation safety; clinical nuclear instrumentation; computer operation and laboratory techniques
- Excellent working knowledge of PET and CT or MR procedures, as appropriate per modality; the appropriate imaging protocols to be followed and in-vivo procedures
- Strong understanding of the handling of radiopharmaceuticals during the receipt; storage; administration; and disposal process
- Excellent working knowledge of imaging equipment and proper quality control criteria for each type of instrument being used
- Knowledge of proper laboratory procedures and a strong understanding of all hospital; state and federal policies and regulations regarding the handling of radioactive materials; hazardous chemicals; and body fluids
