Job Summary
The Personal Support Worker provides personal support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON policies, procedures, and standards, collaborating with the health care team to meet clients’ needs and support independence; duties include assisting with personal care (walking, mobility, eating, dressing), basic bedside care under nursing direction, meal preparation, light housekeeping, home safety monitoring, care plan development and updates, respite care for clients, family support through child care as needed, daily activity planning, and effective communication with health team; requires strong communication, assessment abilities, ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, adherence to confidentiality, and compliance with safety and PPE requirements. Education and certifications required include a High School diploma, CCA certification, Home Support Worker certificates, First Aid/CPR, vehicle access, and background checks; flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and on-call duties; physical ability to perform lifting and mobility tasks and to wear PPE. Externally, the role supports an existing vacancy in Peterborough, Ontario, within a part-time 0.4 FTE schedule under VON’s community care program.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- CCA Certification is required in Nova Scotia
- Certificate in Home Support Worker (Level I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program or Health Care Aide
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C
- Post Secondary degree or diploma is considered an asset
- Some household management experience and experience working with elderly or ill individuals
