Job Summary

Deliver nursing care addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of Huron Lodge residents. Participate in restorative care programs to support optimal well-being and assist in forming individualized care plans. Perform personal care and selected nursing measures while maintaining accurate documentation of conditions and care provided. Observe and promptly report changes in residents' physical and emotional status to Registered Staff. Communicate respectfully with residents, families, and co-workers while adhering to the Residents' Bill of Rights. Maintain a tidy environment and follow all policy, procedure manuals, and emergency preparedness plans. Complete required in-service training, including annual influenza vaccine protocols and Occupational Health & Safety duties. Work normal Sunday through Saturday shifts with a thirty-minute meal period.

Required Qualifications

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, plus post-secondary school education from a Community College in a Healthcare program, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency
  • Personal Support Worker certificate issued by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities for an Ontario post-secondary institution or district school board with a minimum of 600 hours in duration (including class time and practical experience)
  • Registered Practical Nurse with current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the Ontario College of Nurses plus proof of pharmacology component
  • Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Ontario College of Nurses, inclusive of the pharmacology component
  • Over three (3) months of experience in a health care setting
  • Completion of a post-offer agility test
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Current HeartSaver Certificate and First Aid Certificate
  • Mature person who can demonstrate sensitivity to resident needs and who has a good understanding of long-term care programs and related legislation
  • Proven commitment to ongoing education, training and development
  • Related community and volunteer experience
  • Additional language skills
  • Completion of Respirator Fit Testing every two years while working at the Huron Lodge worksite
  • Shift work including Sunday through Saturday
  • Day shift: 6:55 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Evening shift: 2:55 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
  • Night shift: 10:55 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

  • Current HeartSaver Certificate and First Aid Certificate will be deemed an asset
  • Proven commitment to ongoing education, training and development will be considered an asset
  • Related community and volunteer experience is a definite asset
  • Additional language skills are a definite asset
