Personal Lines Underwriter - Excess & Surplus Lines

Job Summary
Review, evaluate, and process applications, renewals, change requests, and cancellations by applying sound underwriting judgment and adhering to company policy and state regulations. Gather necessary information to make decisions within underwriting authority limits while building positive relationships with independent agents through telephone, email, and in-person interactions. Perform periodic field visits to improve submission quality, stimulate profitable production, and strengthen agency relations. Make accurate entries in underwriting systems and communicate risk acceptance, declination, or modifications to agents. This role supports business development and growth by underwriting excess and surplus lines business that minimizes risk and contributes to a profitable portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years underwriting experience
- Property & Casualty Licenses
- Knowledge of Excess and Surplus Lines Insurance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with particular attention to detail
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Strong computer aptitude which includes expertise with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, but also able to work collaboratively with a team
- 10% travel to agencies, carriers, and home office in Macon, GA
- Must reside in the Southeastern region
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
