Job Summary
A Personal Care Assistant provides non-licensed, in-home support to elderly clients per a written care plan. Responsibilities include planning and preparing meals to dietary requirements, light housekeeping (changing bed linens, dusting, vacuuming, laundry), providing companionship and stimulation (reading, walks), accompanying clients to appointments, running errands and grocery shopping, documenting care-related information, reminding clients to take medications, assisting with activities of daily living (including bathing, dressing, hair and oral hygiene), assisting with ambulation, and helping with routine bodily functions. The role is supervised by the Executive Director with scheduling direction from the agency staffing Coordinator and requires experience verified by references, completion of the agency’s employment and certification process, age 18+, ability to read/write/speak English, reliability of transportation, and adherence to patient confidentiality and care plans.
Required Qualifications
- Experience verifiable through references
- Must complete employment and certification process
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position
- Must exhibit mature responsible behavior and understand confidentiality
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must be able to follow direction and accurately report changes in client’s condition
- Must have reliable transportation to and from assignments
- Planning and preparing meals according to dietary requirements
- Maintaining a safe, clean and healthy environment through light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, laundry)
- Providing companionship and stimulation including reading, walks, etc.
- Accompanying the client to doctors or other appointments
- Grocery shopping or errands
- Performing other housekeeping tasks as indicated in the care plan
- Participating in in-service education programs
- House Sitting Services
- Pet sitting Services
- Recording pertinent information pertaining to the client’s care
- Reminding clients to take medication at appropriate times
- Assisting with ambulation and personal care including hair care, oral hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing
- Assisting with routine bodily functions (toileting)
- Active listening, communication, persuading, respecting, helping, sharing, participating
