Job Summary
Assist the teacher by monitoring and assisting exceptional children in the classroom and during activities to ensure quality instruction in a safe environment. Responsibilities include reinforcing material, creating/modifying instructional materials, implementing strategies for individual students, operating and caring for classroom equipment, monitoring behavior and maintaining discipline, assisting with daily living skills and mobility (including transfers for wheelchairs/toilets), supporting delivery of special services and therapies, maintaining confidentiality, performing clerical duties, documenting progress and incidents, and collaborating with teachers, parents, doctors, nurses, therapists, and substitutes. The role emphasizes safety, professionalism, and adherence to ADA guidelines; employment terms are ten months with salary based on the state scale; may include duties such as school bus monitoring when requested.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with physically and/or behaviorally disabled children
- Preferred NC License to drive a school bus or the ability to get one
