Job Summary
Schedule inspections and enforce zoning, health, safety, and parking ordinances while preparing and issuing violations and permits. Provide accurate technical guidance to the public and contractors on planning and permitting matters, mediating disputes, and facilitating building plan submissions and approvals. Assist the Chief Building Official with board and commission meetings by assembling packets, conducting research, preparing agendas, and maintaining records. Manage administrative duties including scanning, revising, and updating reports, forms, and case files within online management systems. Support the implementation of new online permit software and perform other assigned duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of related experience in assigned area of responsibility
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Standard practices, methods and materials of assigned work
- Filing and record-keeping principles
- Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices
- Uses and properties of supplies and equipment
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations
- Customer service principles
- Conflict resolution principles
- Computers and applicable software
- Conducting inspections, identifying violations, and enforcing ordinances
- Issuing permits
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining basic reports and documents
- Performing basic research, compiling and assembling data
- Organizing and maintaining records and files
- Operating assigned tools and equipment
- Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards
- Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information
- Pass a background check
- Pass a drug screen
- Pass a physical exam
- Pass a reference check
