Job Summary

Facilitate surgical services operations by supporting pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases with aseptic technique and sterile field management. Assist surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, and nurses while independently setting up and operating specialized equipment such as endoscopic video systems, electrosurgical units, and laser devices. Review daily schedules, prioritize patient needs, and provide technical assistance to the surgical team across multiple specialties. Maintain timely documentation and foster communication with staff and family members. Be available for on-call hours including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days
American Heart Association (AHA) certification
Ability to be assigned on-call hours outside of scheduled work-hours, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays
Ability to respond to on-call contact within the time frame defined by the needs of the department
Ability to adhere to assigned weekly, weekend, and holiday call shifts in accordance with hospital policies and protocols
Ability to function independently in a variety of areas
Ability to operate and demonstrate working knowledge of a variety of laser systems
Ability to independently set up and operate equipment for a variety of surgical specialties
Ability to assist multiple specialty needs, collaborate, communicate, and provide required support
Ability to foster relationships and communication with family members
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to patient and family needs
Ability to integrate individual efforts within surgical services to ensure a safe environment, promote teamwork, and satisfaction
Ability to communicate effectively with nursing staff throughout the shift
Ability to utilize time wisely, identify and initiate appropriate action
Ability to prioritize, anticipate, and provide for surgical procedures and patients
Ability to review daily surgery schedule, collaborate with leadership, and plan support functions
Ability to implement plans so multiple needs are met simultaneously
Ability to identify barriers and initiate appropriate intervention
Ability to provide technical assistance to surgeons, physicians, registered nurses, surgical technologist, and support staff
Ability to apply principles of aseptic techniques, including opening sterile items and skin preparation
Ability to ensure appropriate equipment, hazard warning, and practice compliance during laser use
Ability to provide case specific needs, including specialty operating tables and case specific assistive devices
Ability to prepare for age specific case requirements
Ability to demonstrate effective critical thinking and problem solving
