Job Summary
Support, treat, and supplement the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems of patients by operating cardiopulmonary bypass and ancillary equipment in the cardiovascular operating room. Prepare perfusion equipment, assemble supplies, and document procedures while managing inventory and maintaining machinery according to manufacturer recommendations. Recognize critical situations and adjust therapy, including administering medications and blood components, in close cooperation with attending physicians. Provide ECMO coverage and handle in/out of hospital ECMO transport. This role requires travel and taking call for multiple hospitals. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's in Medical Science, GCPL certification, and at least three years of relevant experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Medical Science
- GCPL - Georgia Clinical Perfusionist
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- Completion of Accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion Program
- American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification within 12 months of start date
- Minimum 3 years experience Preferred
- Extensive knowledge of coronary heart disease, cardiac anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and clinical management of patients
- Ability to work within a team environment with individuals of varying abilities and responsibilities
- Must be able to interact with physicians and provide them with interpretation of data collected
- Able to handle emergency and stressful situations and must be able to take call
- Must have good communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of perfusion practices and equipment and cardiovascular surgery procedures and terminology
- Must travel and take call for multiple hospitals
- A working knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment, anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanics of cardiopulmonary bypass
- A working knowledge of cardioplegia delivery systems, including antegrade, retrograde and cerebral perfusion
- A working knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanics of an intra-aortic balloon pump
- A working knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanics of ventricular assist devices
- A working knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanics of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
- A working knowledge of the Blood Gas analyzer, including Quality Control
- A working knowledge of the Activated Clotting Time machine, including Quality Control
- Autotransfusion knowledge
- Ventricular assist devices knowledge
- ECMO coverage and in/out of hospital ECMO transport
