Perception Engineer

On-siteColumbus, Ohio, United States

Job Summary

Manage the end-to-end real-time perception pipeline, from sensing and extraction through geometry to control loop output on embedded hardware within a defined budget. Engineer robustness for actively degraded imagery and ensure geometric estimates honestly report failure when data is insufficient. Evaluate sensing instruments through experiments and defend choices with measured numbers, while setting technical direction for learned methods. This role requires strong C++, ROS 2, and first-principles depth in classical vision and 3-D geometry. Candidates must demonstrate experience closing real-time loops on physical hardware with measurable latency and end-to-end accuracy. Path Robotics is building an elite robotics team to address skilled labor shortages in the industry.

Required Qualifications

  • You have closed a real-time loop on what a camera saw, on real hardware, and something physical moved in response
  • You can state its rate, its measured end-to-end latency, and how you measured it
  • First-principles depth in classical vision and 3-D geometry
  • camera geometry
  • triangulation
  • registration
  • calibration
  • propagating error properly
  • Real-time segmentation or feature extraction on degraded imagery
  • an understanding of why thin and low-contrast structures break the standard metrics and losses
  • Strong, modern, production C++
  • ROS 2
  • GPU-accelerated inference on embedded hardware
  • the habit of measuring the tail rather than the mean
  • A physical accuracy claim you can defend
  • measured against something independent of the system that produced it
  • bias reported separately from repeatability
