Job Summary
Triage and admit emergency patients, deliver advanced nursing care to critically ill and injured hospitalized patients, and continuously monitor their condition while communicating changes to the medical team. Administer medications and continuous rate infusions (CRIs), perform in-house laboratory testing, place IV catheters, and collect diagnostic samples. Conduct accurate patient rounds, maintain detailed medical records, and safely handle fearful or fractious patients. Recognize changes requiring immediate veterinary intervention and advocate for patients and clients through compassionate communication. Collaborate closely with veterinarians and support staff to deliver exceptional care in our specialty emergency hospital environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with at least two years of clinical veterinary experience
- Senior Veterinary Assistant with at least three consecutive years of Emergency/Critical Care experience
- Strong technical skills including IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, advanced patient monitoring, and emergency nursing
- Ability to accurately calculate medication dosages, CRIs, client estimates, and invoices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both clients and team members
- California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire if not a licensed California RVT
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment
- Flexibility to work per diem shifts, including some holidays
