Job Summary
Scrub on all surgical procedures in the Operating Room and assist the physician in procedural areas under the direction of a licensed professional nurse. Anticipate and gather needed supplies, equipment prior to care based on procedure preference cards, and escalate outstanding needs with the RN Circulator. Ensure specimens are appropriately identified and labeled in collaboration with the Registered nurse. Provide on-call coverage proficiently where applicable and report unexpected events, such as count discrepancies or breaks in aseptic techniques, to RN staff and leadership. Maintain knowledge of instrument and equipment use, care, and maintenance while adhering to JCAHO, DOH, and CARF standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BLS Required (American Heart Association)
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program through NBSTSA
- Certification required upon hire
- Cert Surgical Technologist
- Basic Life Support Cert
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications
- One-Two year experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist in a large complex Operating Room
- NYU Surgical Tech Program graduate
