Per Diem Registration Representative

Job Summary

Greet and check in patients, answer phones, and collect co-pays and insurance payments while processing paperwork in a fast-paced clinical environment. Communicate with patients and families to verify insurance eligibility, gather demographics, and confirm appointments prior to discharge. Enter and verify patient data in real-time, process referrals and pre-authorizations, and generate price estimates. Identify outstanding balances and conduct conversations regarding out-of-pocket financial obligations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of registration requirements for admitting, emergency, maternity, and rehabilitation units. Work onsite in Portland, ME on a per diem basis with irregular shifts, including weekends and holidays, primarily from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of experience in a hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support setting
  • Influenza vaccination for the current flu season (typically August-May) or commitment to receive the influenza vaccination when available for the upcoming flu season
  • Ability to work onsite in Portland, ME
  • Ability to work on a Per Diem basis, irregular shifts as business requires, including weekends, holidays, etc. (primarily on weekends from 11:00am - 7:00pm)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • UnitedHealth Group is a drug-free workplace. Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with using Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in a Hospital Patient Registration Department, Physician's office, OR any medical setting
  • Experience in insurance reimbursement and financial verification
  • Experience in requesting and processing financial payments
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics for financial payments
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance policies and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
