Job Summary
Collect blood specimens via venipuncture, skin puncture, and heel sticks, and gather non-blood samples like urine and sputum from patients. Verify requisition accuracy, assemble collection equipment, and perform venipuncture procedures while ensuring patient identification and comfort. Process specimens for laboratory testing, run quality control reports, and perform waived or moderately complex testing. Handle receptionist duties, answer test order questions, and maintain clean work areas. Adhere to all safety protocols for biohazards and assist in training interns or supporting clinical areas as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/ GED (or higher)
- Must have open availability to work Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 7pm when called in to provide coverage
- UnitedHealth Group is a drug - free workplace. Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from a Phlebotomy Technical Training Program
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification
- Previous Phlebotomy experience or equivalent externship experience
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology obtained through previous medical practice experience (up to 1 year)
- Proficiency in the use of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proven solid interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
