Job Summary
Perform medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures under general direction, including patient identification, consent, and comfort during imaging exams. Operate hospital and radiology information systems to schedule exams, track patient data, and document beginning, completion, and departure times in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Independently implement non-imaging procedures, collect body fluid specimens, and process them using standard industry practices. Prepare radiopharmaceutical doses by quantitating exact activity, verifying radioactivity with a dose calibrator, and dispensing radioactive gas. Conduct routine imaging system evaluations, calibrate equipment, and maintain cleanliness of the procedure area. Dispose of radioactive waste according to department policies and radiation safety guidelines, while performing contamination surveys and decontamination procedures as needed. Analyze acquired data and report results to physicians, solving problems that arise during examinations. Maintain all required records for quality control, dose preparation, and waste disposal in appropriate logbooks.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
- New York State Radiologic Technologist License in Nuclear Medicine
- ARRT in Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB Certification
- Current New York State Nuclear Medicine Technologist License
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT-N)
- Certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
