Job Summary
Check schedules, organize patient flow, and accompany patients to exam rooms while assisting with transfers, specimen collection, and vitals checks. Collect patient histories, perform screenings per guidelines, and chart procedures. Fulfill clerical duties by managing medical records, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and updating charts. Maintain infection control by cleaning exam rooms, sterilizing equipment, and disposing of biohazard waste. Assist physicians with minor surgeries, apply dressings, and perform CLIA-waived lab testing including venipuncture and EKGs. Respond to emergency codes and share patient concerns with supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
- Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution
- Community college course in medical assisting
- Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty if working in specialty department
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant
- Documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
- Electrocardiogram (EKG) current experience
- Vital signs current experience
- Venipuncture current experience
- Capillary current experience
- Injection current experience
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Thorough knowledge in computer information systems
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Local travel during the business day
- Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel
