Job Summary
Empties soiled linen bags, makes unoccupied beds, and stocks clean patient linen and bathroom supplies to established par levels. Cleans and disinfects occupied patient rooms, isolation rooms, offices, exam rooms, lavatories, and hospital equipment according to established procedures. Removes trash, hazardous materials, and medical waste, including emptying receptacles and delivering items to a holding area. Operates equipment such as mops and vacuums for floor care projects and sets up or breaks down furniture for meetings. Detects defective materials or equipment that present unsafe conditions and reports them to supervision. Follows all rules regarding medical waste handling, Universal Precautions, and proper chemical mixing. Completes prepared forms to report specific tasks accomplished.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior custodial work
- Ability to lift and transport equipment and furniture
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions
- Ability to attend mandatory in-service education and maintain standards for competencies annually
- Ability to attend all GSA update training and hazardous material training annually and pass associated tests
- Ability to detect and report defective materials, equipment, and items presenting unsafe conditions
- Knowledge of rules and regulations related to handling medical and hazardous waste
- Ability to wear proper PPE
- Ability to mix chemicals properly and use them consistent with manufacturer's instructions
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions
- Ability to follow rules and regulations related to safety
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (not necessary)
- Prior custodial work (preferred)
