Job Summary
Provide daily personal care to patients in facility settings or private residences, including bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, and meal preparation. Assist with activities of daily living while observing and reporting changes in patient status to the nurse. Maintain accurate documentation of care provided and follow infection control protocols and safety equipment usage. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff while adhering to hospice policies and procedures. Work flexible shifts including morning, evening, and overnight rotations.
Required Qualifications
- Current certification in good standing as a Home Health Aide
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Good physical stamina and mental health
- Pre-employment physician's health certificate, including negative TB skin tests and/or CXR and other tests as required by specific state statute
- Ability to read and follow written instructions
- Ability to legibly write and document care given
- Understand the Center's philosophy, and be comfortable providing the specialized care needed for the terminally ill
- Provide satisfactory references from previous employers
- Self-directing with the ability to work with little supervision
- Secure with issues of death and dying; providing a calm manner
- Demonstrates empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired
- Flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation
- Ability to be tactful and patient
- Demonstrate good personal hygiene
- Current, valid driver's license with automobile in good working condition and is insured in accordance with organization's requirements and the state
- Strict adherence to the Center's policy on confidentiality in all matters at all times
- Strict adherence to the Center's code of conduct and ethical behavior
- Skills within the scope of the position
- Complete mandatory HEN education early or on-time
- Hand washing
- Active support of the Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care's mission
- Current and valid Home Health Aide Certificate
- Valid driver's license
- Must be compassionate and empathetic
- Strong communication skills
- Medical fitness through a pre-employment physical, rubella and rubeola titers, and TB test
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with older adults in a hospice or in a home care setting
