Job Summary
Experienced People Operations Business Partner in Houston onsite who will own benefits administration, payroll processing, and onboarding while designing scalable programs for a growing robotics-focused company. You’ll manage multi-state payroll tax obligations, I-9 compliance, state nexus, and HRIS data integrity, build onboarding for local and remote hires, coordinate with Finance and Legal on employment agreements and tax forms, and develop dashboards and metrics to guide leadership. You’ll also help shape PO programs across the employee lifecycle and ensure safety, confidentiality, and compliance across all activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of People Operations experience with payroll processing, benefits administration, PO compliance, and program or systems building
- Working knowledge of multi-state payroll tax rules, reciprocity agreements, and state income tax withholding compliance
- Experience administering FMLA, ADA accommodations, and Texas or Florida specific leave and labor laws
- Proficiency in modern HRIS platforms
- Strong understanding of ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA compliance requirements
- High attention to detail, strong documentation habits, and ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex PO/tax topics into clear guidance for employees and managers
Desired Qualifications
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
- Experience with Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reporting
- Houston-area benefits market familiarity
- Interstate nexus analysis and SIT (state income tax) registrations for multi-state workforce
- Experience supporting PO operations for 200–500 employee organizations
- Comfort working in a fast-growth startup/robotics environment
- Ability to build processes from scratch and translate complex PO topics for employees
- Strong data-driven decision-making and analytics experience
