Job Summary
Peer Support Worker at The Women’s Centre of Calgary provides trauma-informed, strengths-based support to women accessing the Centre. Responsible for connecting women with information, referrals, and resources to meet diverse needs; collaborating with program team members and volunteers; fostering a safe environment; supporting volunteers; collecting daily/weekly statistics; contributing to a positive, psychologically safe workplace; and engaging in equity, diversity, and inclusion activities and Justice and Reconciliation initiatives. Requires a social-work–related credential (diploma or undergraduate degree), regulatory-body registration where appropriate, and at least 2+ years in a drop-in or community setting. Key skills include crisis management, resource navigation, strong communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and proficiency with Microsoft Office; bilingualism is an asset. Evening work is required; relocation is not indicated. Criminal record and vulnerable sector checks are required.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in Social Work
- Registration and membership in good standing with a regulatory body (if appropriate)
- 2+ years of experience in a drop-in or community-based setting
- Basic assessment, safety planning, and crisis management skills
- Working knowledge of community resources
- Ability to remain calm in fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
