Peer Support Specialist – Youth

Job Summary
Provide coaching, education, and support to youth to help them express their views and make informed choices about their service needs. Work collaboratively to increase youth and family involvement while utilizing Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) in client interactions. Transport clients to facilitate client-directed services and travel between sites, requiring a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Maintain electronic documentation and communicate with the treatment team while adhering to HIPAA confidentiality laws. This role serves as an active member of the treatment team, promoting a strengths-based framework for recovery within the mental health services provided by Options for Southern Oregon.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- General understanding of the population served
- History of receiving mental health services
- Well-grounded in one's own recovery
- At least a year since diagnosis
- Knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with clients who have a mental illness
- Competency in recognizing behavioral issues and symptoms of mental illnesses
- Eligibility to become certified as a Peer Support Specialist on the State registry
- Ability to attend required trainings for certification
- Ability to use e-mail
- Ability to compose documents
- Ability to save and locate documents electronically
- Ability to learn to use the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
- Proficiency in Word and other MS Office applications
- Valid OR driver's license
- Satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work independently and flexibly
- Mature attitude and sensitivity to the needs of people who have a chronic mental illness
- Understanding of HIPAA laws regarding confidentiality of privileged information
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work independently and with staff as agency needs dictate
- Must pass state-required background and DMV checks
Desired Qualifications
- Some post-secondary coursework
- Bilingual skills (Spanish)
- Certification of a language proficiency test approved by the Oregon Health Authority meeting Intermediate High or Low Intermediate+ proficiency level
