Peer Support Specialist

Job Summary
Support program participants on basic mental health practices, accessing needed services, and sustaining sobriety using your own unique life experiences as a role model. Assist individuals in identifying personal goals for recovery, developing empowerment skills, and linking them to community resources for housing, childcare, transportation, and medical services. Provide guidance on problem-solving techniques, parenting skills, and wellness strategies while maintaining meticulous documentation in all roles. Function as a behavioral health consumer advocate and mentor within the HEALS Lab, working with clinical staff to implement post-discharge follow-up procedures. Engage in outreach to community sites, including jails and prisons, to support service utilization and network building.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- Eligible to test for Peer Support certificate in Arkansas within 6 months of employment
- Must be a current or past consumer of mental health or co-occurring behavioral health services
- Ability to utilize individual and group skills
- Strong knowledge of local community services
- 2-3 years of success within a personal recovery model
- Willingness to undertake in-state travel to community sites

- Ability to interact and develop strong positive working relationships with a diverse group of professionals at all levels within the organization and the outside community
- Ability to represent UAMS and HEALS Lab in a positive and professional manner
- Willingness to adhere to all best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established
- Ability to maintain timely and meticulous documentation in all roles
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Behavioral Health setting
- Certified Peer Support Specialist in the state of Arkansas
