Peer Support Specialist

Job Summary
Provide phone line support for individuals seeking authentic human connection during recovery, using person-first language and assertive communication to validate feelings and identify coping strategies. Establish collaborative relationships through mutuality and hope, offering support rather than solutions while advocating for callers' preferences. Clarify situations, promote a recovery-based approach emphasizing self-direction, and connect callers to community-based services or crisis lines when necessary. Document all interactions in the electronic health record, maintain HIPAA compliance, and identify crises per policy.
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years of experience in the field
- Lived personal experience with recovery
- One year of office volunteer or work experience required
- Completion of Peer/Recovery Support Specialist Certification, required
- GED/High School Diploma
- A comparable combination of education/experience and/or training will be considered equivalent to the education listed above
- Ability to act professionally and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients and staff
- Ability to report as scheduled to work, meetings, training, and job-related activities prepared
- Ability to consistently demonstrate compassion and meet people with compassion
- Ownership, which drives the company's success
- Maintains an open and accepting mindset by being an active learner, participating in discussions with others, trying new approaches and ideas, and being self-aware and self-reflective for continual personal, professional and leadership growth
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to hear and speak
- Employees must maintain a stable and secure private home internet with a minimum of 50Mbps download and 5Mbps upload, and an average jitter less than 20% of latency
