Job Summary
Coordinate care for individuals with substance use disorders by providing peer mentoring, advocacy, and recovery education across multiple community contact points. Assist clients in developing personalized recovery action plans while facilitating communication with service providers and strengthening self-advocacy skills. Actively identify and support linkages to community resources including educational, vocational, and mutual self-help groups to address co-occurring challenges such as homelessness and financial instability. Provide on-going follow-up, goal setting, and emotional support to individuals and their families, serving as a role model consistent with ADA and FMLA standards. Requires on-call assignments and local travel exceeding 50% of weekly time. Candidates must possess lived recovery experience, hold Florida Certification Board registration, and complete 15 hours of annual in-service training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrate an understanding of, and belief in, the addiction recovery process
- Person with lived recovery experience, with minimum 2 years of continuous recovery
- Strong communication skills
- Cultural and linguistic competence and sensitivity to population served
- Knowledgeable about community resources in the central Florida area
- Registered with the Florida Certification Board as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist OR meets the qualifications to seek certification
- Must be 21 years old or older
- Current resident of Orange, Osceola, or Seminole County
- Certified Recovery Peer Specialist
- Degree in Social Work or related human services field
- Bilingual (Spanish and/or Haitian/Creole)
- Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of peer recovery support
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing
- Ability to manage and share pertinent information
- Thorough Background Screening upon hire including FBI, FDLE, Local Law check, Employment Reference check, DMV check, Criminal Records check, Social Security Trace & Drug Screening
- On-call assignments
- Travel- local: over 50% per week, long-distance: 1% per month
- Attend at least 15 hours of in-service training annually
